After my experience this semester co-producing my groups radio show, I think what I realized the most is creating a narrative radio show is really not an easy task. People spend so much time listening to radio stations, flipping through the channels to find something that appeals to them, but never really acknowledge how much time and work has been put into such a small amount of the show. I can’t fathom the amount of time I have spent changing the channel when I was listening to the radio. If even one sentence lost my interest, momentarily I would be listening to another program. I have a profound respect for people who do this in their profession, for they certainly have a lot more patience than I could ever have. To spend hours on end just to have a minutes worth of airing time, that’s devotion.
It’s simple to think of a clever theme that can expand into a suspenseful storyline, that will appeal to a specific audience, and television has the luxury of having a visual to maintain the audiences attention. However, with a radio show, every second of the material must be entertaining, and creative in a way that the listener forgets that there isn’t a visual because they have created their own.
I think the best way to succeed in making a radio show is by choosing a topic that you yourself are enthralled in. That no matter how many awful interviews you endure, or the times you have to listen, over and over again to material, the subject still fascinates you. As a creator of something, the receiver isn’t going get anything out of it unless the excitement is portrayed by maker. I am sure this sounds corny, but a radio show is only as entertaining as you make it. Now I am by no means saying that I think my radio show is perfect. If anything, I am saying that I wished we could have done a topic that I was much more interested in. To spend hours on end hearing the same repetititve information about the same topic is tedious unless your heart is in it. I know that I can hear someone talking about something that I have absolutely no interest in, but if they convey some sort of passion, the topic all of a sudden become interesting and unique. This is a phenomenon that no one can fake. If you’re not interested in something, no matter how hard you try to pretend otherwise, the truth comes out in the material. When creating a piece of entertainment that allows you to have a visual, through that you can persuade the audiece otherwise. But because radio is simply an auditory form of media, each word holds great weight.
I also think that it is important to have previous knowledge about your topic. This is important because it will allow you to pry at the person you are interviewing and get the real information that you want. Many people respond in their interviews according to how they think they are supposed to. But if the interviewer can catch the person off guard, by asking them a non-generic question they don’t have time to think about how they should answer, they’ll have to tell the truth. In the end, that’s what’s interesting in the radio. No one wants to listen to someone acting, it’s fake and annoying. But when someone just talks, or tells a story without any holding back any of the truth, the audience with be intrigued.
I think that Amy does a really good job going more indebth into the linguistic things that someone needs to do for a successful show, which I totally agree on her points, especially her view on interviews, which I see as contingent with mine.
And Kim had the best advice which should be applied to any endeavor no matter how old you are…” Feel free to always ask for help.” In the end it will be significantly benefitial. So I want to thank my group for dealing with my rigid tactics. Slowly I am learning how to work in groups. But really, we took an overlooked, dry topic and made it into entertainment. And I want to thank Dave because I never in my life thought I would be able to say that I co-produce or even contributed to radio show. It’s been a great experience and a great semester!

And I am still waiting for LUKE to blog to me...HAHA
Kyle get excited for Cedar Point!! Hollywood loves you!!
it's 5am on friday morning and I am in Fellows with Kat Ben's beautiful girlfriend. We are once again pulling an exciting all-nighter together!! We have our red bulls, dc's, candy, stogs and EACHOTHER to stay awake. But as I am working my mother loving ass off for all of my classes right now, I figured I would take the time to do something much less tedious and post a blog bitching about how I can't stand school right now!! Dave, I am very jealous of you, that you're getting out of here next year. As much as I love this place, I loath what kind of school it is becoming, or should I say trying to become. I'll get a break from it next semester because I am going abroad to Florence with Kate, Suzes, Courtney, and Jenny, and then back to Granville! It's actually funny how quickly my feelings can change about this school. Earlier today we were all so depressed because the year is almost over and all of the seniors are graduating, WHO WE ARE GOING TO MISS INSANE AMOUNTS!!! The school just isn't going to be the same!! We were all saying how we just wish this year could go on forever, and now with all this bullshit work I can't stand the place!! I just want the summer to start like now, but all the seniors to come back in the fall!! Ok I so can't even think about this now, I have to go do more awful work...PS I am apologizing now to anyone that I might not be very pleasant to today, or if I am acting really bizarre its cause I am flamingly SLEEP DEPRIVED!! And thanks Kat for all the all-nighters this year, I don't really think anyone else understands this craziness of ours...haha!!

However, I think DAVE is moving to NYC!!! I am sure he'll like it a lot more than Granville. But I still think Denison is a wonderful place so he'll probobly miss all of us!!! He'll definately have alot more fun in NYC, and go to alot more intersting places...because its the best place EVER!!!!
On Sunday morning, Caroline, Kate, Suzes, and Kelly joined me and my mom for breakfast at Cherry Valley which was alot of fun. We told her all the funny stories of the night before and we ate really good food. But I wish that Carloine and Kate were living in NYC this summer with me instead of going to Nantucket and seeing susez. Well Kells and I will just have to make a camio in Nantucket and spice some things up!!!
My mom also met Christine who she thinks is absolutely adorable. I told my mom all about our 11:30 lunches so she wanted to come see what it was like.
Thanks Kyle my Mom is a very sweet woman!! She cam to visit me this weekend which I am really happy about because on Saturday night I got really ill and the thought of spending another night in a germ infested dorm room made me want to vomit!! So I stayed with her at Cherry Valley and got pampered by my mom. I totally forgot how nice that was!!! Usually when I get sick here, it lasts for like a week. But two days at Cherry Valley with the Mom and I am totally good!!! So sorry I wasn't in class on Monday. I brought my mom to Slayter and thought I could make it to class and she had to bring me back to bed. But no worries I am fine now!!!

HAPPY 4/20 everyone, I am sad to say that this is one of the only years I didn't celebrate, but I hope that everyone else celebrated for me!!
So I am really proud of myself. I pulled an all nighter on Sunday night and finished a paper that was due yesterday. The first two pages were really good, but then it was all down hill. After 4am I am just totally out of commision. But then last night I stayed up until like 4ish finishing two papers due today, and I am finally saying screw the library I am not going!!! I have probobly been there every Tuesday night (probobly everynight accept Wed, Fri, Sat) all year and that is really sad...so I have decided to not go!! The only thing is that Caroline and I have an astronomy exam this friday and I really have to do well on it, but I don't even know
DARREN CONGRATS and good luck during your tank week!!! It's only Tuesday, but I am sure you're feeling some pain!! Have fun!!
I love you KYLE!!! And I'm praying for you too!! If you need anything please call!!

YEAH DEAN!!! You kicked major ass in the lax game as usual!! congrats!! I hope all of you guys heard us cheering for you!!
I had so much fun withkyle on the busride to the formal. He looked very handsome and was as entertaining as usual. Then he entertained me at the lax game...which we won...OBVIOUSLY!!!! And Kyle made me laugh hysterically as usual. However, he hasn't been making a camio at lunch, so we're going to have to talk about that.
Emily was obviously right, we had so much fun at the Phi Delt formal, but our was so much fun!!!!! I have to say that the crazy lady with the bleach blond hair scared me a little bit, but other than that I had an amazing time!!! I wish we could that everyweekend!!
everyone should join Christine and my lunch. We have the best time...OBVIOUSLY!!! But today ai was really happy when I saw that she had made it safetly up the hill, because we were worried it was going to pour again on her way up or down the hill to class!!
I know I have been really bad with posting on my blog, but last week was absolutely crazy and I literally had like no time to do anything!! So I fully intend on making up for it this week...MULTIPLE BLOGS A DAY

Hmmm this is the happiest day of my life... I get to BLOG!!!! Sussez and I are OBSESSED with reading the blogs (we're really cool). This is Kate, by the way. I would just like to say a few things: 1) Dave, why didn't we get to blog when I had you last semester???? 2) My name is Polly Pocket and NOT Polly Poodle. 3) This is the most important--- my hampster Doody is the cutest, most wonderful, darling little thing in the entire world and I LOVE HIM SOOOO MUCH!!!! And don't listen to ANYTHING Meghan says because she doesn't like him (I think she's just jealous that he's mine and not hers).... and she says that it smells and poops a lot, but that's not true. Come over and see him-- he'll win your heart over because he's perfect!!!!!!!!! Ok byyyyye
