People spend so much time listening to radio stations, flipping through the channels to find something that appeals to them, but never really acknowledge how much time and work has been put into such a small amount of the show. I can’t fathom the amount of time I have spent changing the channel when I was listening to the radio. If even one sentence lost my interest, momentarily I would be listening to another program. I have a profound respect for people who do this in their profession, for they certainly have a lot more patience than I could ever have. To spend hours on end just to have a minutes worth of airing time, that’s devotion.
It’s simple to think of a clever theme that can expand into a suspenseful storyline, that will appeal to a specific audience, and television has the luxury of having a visual to maintain the audiences attention. However, with a radio show, every second of the material must be entertaining, and creative in a way that the listener forgets that there isn’t a visual because they have created their own.
I think the best way to succeed in making a radio show is by choosing a topic that you yourself are enthralled in. That no matter how many awful interviews you endure, or the times you have to listen, over and over again to material, the subject still fascinates you. As a creator of something, the receiver isn’t going get anything out of it unless the excitement is portrayed by maker. I am sure this sounds corny, but a radio show is only as entertaining as you make it. Now I am by no means saying that I think my radio show is perfect. If anything, I am saying that I wished we could have done a topic that I was much more interested in. To spend hours on end hearing the same repetititve information about the same topic is tedious unless your heart is in it. I know that I can hear someone talking about something that I have absolutely no interest in, but if they convey some sort of passion, the topic all of a sudden become interesting and unique. This is a phenomenon that no one can fake. If you’re not interested in something, no matter how hard you try to pretend otherwise, the truth comes out in the material. When creating a piece of entertainment that allows you to have a visual, through that you can persuade the audiece otherwise. But because radio is simply an auditory form of media, each word holds great weight.
I also think that it is important to have previous knowledge about your topic. This is important because it will allow you to pry at the person you are interviewing and get the real information that you want. Many people respond in their interviews according to how they think they are supposed to. But if the interviewer can catch the person off guard, by asking them a non-generic question they don’t have time to think about how they should answer, they’ll have to tell the truth. In the end, that’s what’s interesting in the radio. No one wants to listen to someone acting, it’s fake and annoying. But when someone just talks, or tells a story without any holding back any of the truth, the audience with be intrigued.
I think that Amy does a really good job going more indebth into the linguistic things that someone needs to do for a successful show, which I totally agree on her points, especially her view on interviews, which I see as contingent with mine.
And Kim had the best advice which should be applied to any endeavor no matter how old you are…” Feel free to always ask for help.” In the end it will be significantly benefitial. So I want to thank my group for dealing with my rigid tactics. Slowly I am learning how to work in groups. But really, we took an overlooked, dry topic and made it into entertainment. And I want to thank Dave because I never in my life thought I would be able to say that I co-produce or even contributed to radio show. It’s been a great experience and a great semester!

Just wanted to tell all the seniors Kim, Amy, Emily, Leigh, Lauren Maggie AND Morgan that I am going to miss you guys so much you have no idea!! We are once again pulling an exciting all-nighter together!! We have our red bulls, dc's, candy, stogs and EACHOTHER to stay awake. But as I am working my mother loving ass off for all of my classes right now, I figured I would take the time to do something much less tedious and post a blog bitching about how I can't stand school right now!! Dave, I am very jealous of you, that you're getting out of here next year. As much as I love this place, I loath what kind of school it is becoming, or should I say trying to become. I'll get a break from it next semester because I am going abroad to Florence with Kate, Suzes, Courtney, and Jenny, and then back to Granville! It's actually funny how quickly my feelings can change about this school. Earlier today we were all so depressed because the year is almost over and all of the seniors are graduating, WHO WE ARE GOING TO MISS INSANE AMOUNTS!!! The school just isn't going to be the same!! We were all saying how we just wish this year could go on forever, and now with all this bullshit work I can't stand the place!! I just want the summer to start like now, but all the seniors to come back in the fall!! Ok I so can't even think about this now, I have to go do more awful work...PS I am apologizing now to anyone that I might not be very pleasant to today, or if I am acting really bizarre its cause I am flamingly SLEEP DEPRIVED!! And thanks Kat for all the all-nighters this year, I don't really think anyone else understands this craziness of ours...haha!!

However, I think DAVE is moving to NYC!!! She was wasted and got it from some freshmen boys. It smells like ass and she named it doody. She has a huge cage for it, it came with it. But when we went to easton on Fri she made us go to Heath too because there was a pet store and she needed to buy the little rat some toys. But she is here for a week so I am totally excited!!!!

so for some reason I cant access anyones blog address or whatever, so I cant link to anyone today. but I do have kind of a funny story. I will totally admit that I didnt really get this whole blogging thing and I still dont really get it, although i am sure its really useful for a lot of things that i just dont know about. Well I didnt know that other people really use blogs also, but my friend will that goes to University of SOuthern California had to do a blog for one of his classes and my friend sent me the web site and it was all pics of me and my friends from the summer, it was really weird. But thats not the good stroy, ok so I am on my plane and I was reading some fashion magazine I athink it might have been Vanity Fair and I am excited to be out of ohio, off campus, BLOG FREE...and then I turned the page and there was like a five page article on blogs! I was like oh my gosh it follows me everywhere, I just like cant get away from it. Its talked about in class, people talk about it when their out (I totally do haha), and now its some how snuck its way into my fashion magazines. I'm really not upset about it, I actually think its pretty funny and kind of weird that blogs are like the in thing of the internet right now. Ok so I hope everyone had a great Spring Break!!!

Clint you are so right I would have totally have been Nemo!!! So Kyle picked out some guy that Miranda had the number of and I ended up joining right after he liked picked the guy, so obviously Miranda and I get the number in like a minute. Then we pick a girl for Kyle...hahahaha it was so funny. I dont even remember the pick up line he used but it was HYSTERICAL. so we are looking at him trying to work it and Kolin is like what are you guys doing and we explain to thim the situation so he stumbles over there totally determined to get the number, and after a couple of minutes of watching them NOT SUCCEED, I left to go dance. But then Kyle comes up to me and is like, yeah after we were talking for a bit, her boyfriend came up to us ....it was really funny though! I have to say that I think Saturday night was up there with some of the greatest nights of this year. It all began as a quiet night in Crawford. As usual I got ready in Shaw, where I live, and then packed a bag and headed to the third floor of Crawford. Keke, Kells and Jess were leaving to go to OSU and everyone else was pretty much recovering from the night before, starting to drink again and figuring out what to do. Some how Alison, Ali, Caroline and I decide to go to this place in Columbus to celebrate Joe's birthday. Allison wasn't drinking so she decided to drive her car, which is now totally the "party car". But it wouldn't be called that if Maggie and Dahdah and Becka and Emily hadn't joined us for the ride!!! I think driving there and back totally made the night...haha. Ok so it's Allison and Ali in the front, then Becka, Emily, Dahdah, and Maggie in the middle and then me, Carline and Miranda in the way back (it was an explorer so it was totally fine). The ride was hysterical, Allison will be able to fill everyone in on the details! SO then we get there and Becka got us drinks because Caroline and I got xed, but washed them off whatev. Then the two of us are drinking talking to our friends and this guy just come up to us and takes the drinks out of our hands. Very weird. Then I am looking around and I don't see Caroline anywhere in sight, she had been getting hit on by many hotties through out the night. but she was def not into them. So then I look over at the bar and she sitting between these two really goodlooking guys who keep buying her drinks. So I go over there and she introduces them to me, I have no idea what their names were, neither does she except that they were Marines or something. So they buy a couple more drinks and then we leave and go rip it up on the dance floor...they didn't stop staring at Caroline the entire time...it was so funny!! Then finally, towards the end of the night, I stole a wrist band from Nicky b/c he was totally done for the night, but I adore him anyways, and FINALLY open up a tab. Trey, Carline and I kept doing shots with the bartender, who asked for my id when I gave him my credit card so I handed him my key card and asked where I lived and I said Shaw, and then he was like ok and then I looked at my key card and it doesnt even say Shaw on it...funny little side note. So then the bar is closing, we find Becka and Allison, but the others had already left. The ride back was so much fun!!! it was Allison (driving) Becka, Trey, Scott, Caroline, myself and MARY!!!!!!!! I think that was it, so then we stopped and got food on the way back and I know I was singing the entire ride back (sorry guys, tone def and drunk...not a good combo). Well, Joe I hope you had the best birthday, we all had such a fun time!!!

Honestly, this weather is AMAZING!!! I just want to spend the entire day outside!!! I am also getting very excited for Spring Break!!! I am going home for a couple of days, hanging out with the BEST GIRL EVER Caroline!! And then I am going away with the fam. I just cannot wait to be on a beach and go swimming in the ocean!!! I have this problem I absolutely cannot just lie on the beach and tan, I get WAY TOO BORED!! So I am always in ocean making an ass of myself...or I snorkle, which is even funnier, but my absolute fav is water skiing!! I used to do it all the time whn I was small and then like five yrs ago, my dad was recklessly driving and I went to drop my ski (I can now finally slolum with out using two skiis first) and it dropped and came right back and hit me right in the head...I was fine, sort of. But after that I didn't water ski up until like 2 summers ago, yeah so excited to do that. But whatever I am totally done with winter!! I brought like all of my warm clothes home because I refuse to ever wear them again!!! All I have to say is thank goodness its a beautiful Wednesday!!

Last night was Liz Kirkpatrick's 21st birthday. However, Kate, Courtney, Ali and I all had an OBSENE amount of work. But at around 12 we got a phone call from Susannah Harvey telling us WE HAD TO GO OUT...and she doesn't fuck around! So Kate and I decided we would take a little study break and go down to Liz and Rahanna's house where they were having a party. Suz said there was a path right behind the Craw rape lot and that it took like two seconds to walk down. So Kate (wearing white pants) and I begin our journey to the parking lot. After a couple of minutes looking around we thought we found the path. We saw the house so we just started tearing down branches and making our way through the forest, which was very steep and muddy!! So we are holding on to eachother the entire time. We make it down the entire hill, but have like two steps to go until we are on the drive way and Kate takes a step in front of me and slips right on her ass. So I get down there and her ass is covered in mud and she is sitting on the driveway...SHE ONLY NEEDED TO TAKE ONE MORE STEP and she would have been totally good. Well I tied my jacket around her waste and no one even noticed, but she told everyone anyways because it was funny and we were sober. Later on in the night Kate went back up to Crawford to study but I stayed for a bit longer and had so much fun with Kyle!! We were kicking ass dancing to 80s music and to give it the full effect he made me put my hair in a side ponytail! We had a dance off with Keke, Miranda, Robbie and Chris Porter, and we obviously won!! Then everyone left for the bar, and I went home and finished my work!! Liz I hope you had the best 21st EVER!!!!!!!

I just have to say that almost all of Erics blogs have made me laugh uncontrolably!! I am sorry to hear that he blacks out all the time...dude that totally sucks! But more importantly it just came to my attention that I didn't give anything up for Lent. I just have no idea what I would give up. I won't stop smoking, drinking or food because I love those three things too much and I am in Ohio so I need those things to keep me happy. And I have totally cut down on smoking because I do think its gross. I actually didn't smoke until I came here and when I go home, because you cant smoke anywhere I never smoke. Well I have no idea...I am totally brain dead because I have been in the library all day so I have to stop.

I just have to say that last night was ridiculous!!! It was Keke's 5th birthday, yes she is a leap year baby as well and we all went to Crawford to begin the games of our night. We all had barbie party hats on that said TEAM KESSOCK and we we all had names, I was team hottie. But my personal fav was Sam Kelly who was TEAM BLACKOUT!!! And she definately fit the part last night...hahaha. Yeah everyone also wore pants under their skirts because thats what keks does, however she somehow manages to look adorable when she does it. I forgot my pants, so I just wore my skirt. We also had candy necklaces around our neck and I actually think Kek had hers on still this morning. I somehow lost my hat and mecklace last night, but I always lose stuff. So I hope Keke had as much fun as we all did last night...but this morning was almost better. We wake up and I thought we we're just going to go to Huff for breakfast but because its Keks birthday today we thought we would go to Cherry Valley, but Court had lax so she couldn't go. to solve our probs we went with Court to Huff for APPETIZERS and then went to CHerry Valley for Breakfast. Suz and I decided that we wanted to drink our breakfast and Keke (obvously) Kate and Jess agreed, so we had Mamossa's sorry I cant spell and Bloody Mary's. Actually Jess didn't drink becasue she drove. But we did still get food...obviously. But the drinks kicked our asses. so we went outside and played with the ducks. Oh yeah and some like 90 year old woman told us to drink a triple martini for her. Well, the day was hysterical!! or at least we all thought it was really funny, but I don't think the lax team liked us driving around blasting music screaming we love courtney...all I have to say is that I LOVE ALL MY GIRLS!!! and KEKE I HOPE YOU HAD THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!!!

I am so upset I was just informed that my roomie MERES has her oen website that she failed to inform me of earlier! I am totally computer illiterate and only know how to work Macs and we have some weird computers at home so I couldn't understand how to work it. But I am going to blog like 4 times today to make up for it. PS I am full fledged in love with NYC. The first nigh I as home I lied in my bed, ordered an obsene amount of sushi, and watched Sex and the City. I loved every moment of it!!! But there is an episode where Carrie talks about how she is in a relationship with Manhattan and I have to say that is exactly how I feel! I never noticed how much I adore it until I had to leave and come to Ohio...yeah I dont even know. I even get butterflies when I think about it. it is by far the most amazing place in the entire world and I can never even fatham the thought of leaving it!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEG!!!!. One of the rules for doing this is you have to keep the rythym of normal speech. Such as when a person breathes after they say something, and before they say something. On a computer these sounds are represented in waveform with an edit as a vertical line, a breath as a small wave form and a pause as a flat section of lines. You have to keep this rythym of breathing and pauses natural and you can try different things to see which sounds the most natural. Edit points are most commonly at the begining of a word which is after a pause or breath, or at the end of a word which is before a pause or breath. Another rule is that you need to recognize the defference between pauses and breaths. But you should use editing to emphasize the important points in your material.
Making Radio at Home With Technology!
Advice from Eric Nuzum on how to edit sound. After you record the material you need some equipment. You have to convert the cassette tape into a sound file on your computer. So you need a computer, a microphone and headphone jack in your computer, and software. Then you can digitalize the tape by "plugging the sound out jack on your tape player into the sound in jack on your computer" then you open the software thats recording it and play the time while recording on your computer. The words and sounds on the file look like beads. Editing the sound is just like when you edit the text. You have to keep everything sounding natural. First you should read the manual of the program you are using. Then record the final product back onto a tape.
Putting Music To Words:
You should add music to your work because it frames the entire thing, it escalates the material to beyond real. It can emphasize important parts if you play it after someone says something profound so the listener can just think about whats been said. There are some spots you can easily see music should be added such as when a new character comes in, or a new idea, event or feeling. Then you remove the music when you want all of the audience's attention on a certain statement. However, some not so recognizable places to add music is when you want to create a new begining, or in the begining of a sequence of actions. If someone is talking when music is playing and then it stops, the next thing they say is emphasized to the listener.

But last night Clint was no where to be found!! So after Carloine's birthday gala, we all came back to Crawford. Kate and I spotted a bunch of our friends in the study lounge, so obviously we HAD TO TALK TO THEM. Robby and Ramanan were studying for the Comm 200 class which we took last semester. So the wonderful drunks that we are decided to help them study. Kate spent like an hour quizing Ramanan, and I tried to help Robby by going down the list of terms, but I realized I really wouldn't be any help to him so I got him some water. Robby and Ramanan were very welcoming and although we might not have helped them, I think they were happy with our entertainment. But not everyone was this happy with our cameo in Crawford. Apparently, there were some complaints this morning about Kate, Patch and my behavior...we couldn't keep the noise level down. So sorry that we were having a private party!! PS we hope you guys did well on your exam!!

Ok so as I blogged yesterday it was Caroline's birthday and we had a HUGE PARTY for her in Sunset!! We decorated with all these streamers and everyone had tiara's on and we were all so wasted and I got to spend some quality time with LUKE!!! Whenever I see people from our class and I've had a couple cocktails I tend to ramble about how we should totally blog eachother...haha!! But I definately know I am not the only one who does that when their drunk. I like hear other people talking about it from other classes, actually sober too!! it's turned into this weird little inside joke. People who like aren't in our class read everyones blog. So I feel very privledged to be in the class. P.S. Luke we are all totally going to Bonnaroo this summer! It's going to be so much fun!!!

I cannot explain how sad last night was for me. I know it's pathetic that Sex and the City, a television series could truly make a person upset, but it did. I think it has been airing for like six years? So for six years I have religiously watched the show. I have absolutely no attention span and really don't like watching TV and I love Sex and the City!! To be honest I don't know what it was about it that made it so amazing, the clothes, the guys, the way women rule the world...but I JUST LOVE IT!!! I cannot believe it is over. I have to say that it couldn't have ended better. I have always loved Big, and ever since the first episodes I wanted Carrie to end up with him. I was nervous that they were going to not have them end up together because maybe it would be too predictable or something, but it was PERFECT!! As crazy as I am I feel like an aspect of my life has ended...haha sad I know! I am so going to miss Carrie's adorable fashion statements...I don't think any show will ever replace it!! So it's been fun and unfortunately good things must come to an end, even thought I wish it would go one forever. PS Big is still so unbelievably HOT!! I am going to miss watching him!

Today is such a special day, it is CAROLINE'S BIRTHDAY!! How they developed the idea of doing a show on good Samaritans gone wrong, people who do nice things for people but end up doing more harm. They got this topic from the idea of do-gooders. And then many more ideas stemmed from this topic in which they developed stories. If the ideas are good, new ideas will be continually brought up.
The next couple of pages were about “The Art of the Interview”. It’s important to have a structure that helps you get what you want out of the interview. Each idea will have sub-points, which then have details. But the plan has to be simple and flexible and allow immediate responses. And the interviews have the same structure an the storylines: narrative and reflection. The interviews can last an hour but then are cut down to only a few minutes. It’s important for the interviewer to lead the person they are interviewing. You need to relax so it’s as if you are just having a conversation. You want the narrative to be an anecdote that tells the order of events, and have it showed to establish a visual for the audience. If you are going to critique the person in the interview you must do it to their face to allow them to respond. Then you need reflection of what it all means, by hypothesizing to them and eventually they will agree on dome of them.
The next pages are about “Writing: Getting Your Story Straight”. First you get control over the tape by logging it. Which is similar to a transcript. You take notes on it without stopping the tape. Getting good notes on paper is important for you to see the material you have and choose what you want to keep and what you want to delete. Then you circle your favorite parts of the tape and list them. That’s the “Zen part”. Then you make an outline and start writing by choosing and editing the quotes you are going to use for the script. You need to make sure the way you write is the same way you would talk. In this people will want to know what happened because you create suspence through unanswered questions. Then you give it to someone else to review and get feedback. For an interview you need a microphone, and a recorder. You need a place that is quiet, without echoes. An ideal is a carpeted living room. When you hold the microphone up to record it needs to be 3-4 inches below the person’s mouth, and when you ask questions bring it to the same distance below your mouth.

So I have spent most of today lying in my bed with my BESTEST FRIEND KATHRYN DAVIS EVANS!!! I have the comfiest bed in the entire world because I basically sleep in feathers, so neither of us could get our asses out of bed. But Kate lives in Crawford and I live in Shaw, so usually I AM ALWAYS over there. But this morning, I was so exausted and Kate kept calling me to meet her outside and I kept telling her one minute. After she was waiting for me for a while, she finally came over, and that's how it started. The two of us have bad cases of SAD, seasonal affect disorder, I think mine is worse than hers, but today the sun was out which is was AMAZING, and it feels like spring, so the two of us were in the best mood ever!!! If you don't know who I am talking about, people know her as Kate and she is the cutest girl ever!! You can see her during the day with black stretch pants, blue boots, and a white vest, usually smoking stogs with me on academic quad...I think she's trying to quit though...I hope it's just a threat! At night you can see Kate running around with an Aquafina bottle filled with vodka, a short skirt, stilettos, a trucker hat and...HER WHITE VEST!! You have be careful of the water bottle though. One morning last year, I woke up really late and had to run to class, so I went into Kate's room to get a water bottle to fill with WATER, because she has tons on them thrown around. I grabbed one that she was fine and chugged it. To my surprise the bottle was filled with VODKA...I almost died and definately reeked the entire day of alcohol! Ok so that's just a little bit of an update. PS Kate and I are OBSESSED with Kyle Banahan and we read his blog hourly...haha! We were really upset that he left us last weekend to go to Georgetown, but I am glad he had a good time. And I think Denison should take some pointers from G-town in terms of delivery...hummus, grapes, banana's, beer..thats amazing! Screw incredible!

I have to be completely honest, I am not so faithful to my team, the Yankees. I think it's fun when they win the world series because I love going to the ticker tape parade, but they've gotten kind of over played!! I am actually quite partial to the Mets. I guess I like rooting for the underdog, which doesn't seem to be helping. I thought Darren's comment about his sister playing for the Yanks was really funny!! The cover is a picture of Ira Glass sitting in the Oval Office and he is going to explain to us how to make the best kind of radio show. He explains that he is doing us a favor because it’s the easiest to learn and the cheapest medium. The cartoonist, Jessica Abel came to This American Life in April of 1999 when they were creating a show “Do-Gooders.” At the bottom of the page there are cartoon pictures of the eight producers in April of 1999.
There’s a page with a carton of them getting ready for a show, and then the next page is Ira running to put a tape in to play on the radio just as time is running out with everyone anticipating at the window in front of him. The heading is “How To Make Radio That’s Good”.
This carton begins with where the stories come from. Julie Snyder explains how she was given a story but it didn’t work because it was too much like a documentary that’s not original. She explains that all of their programs have the same literary structure, like a fictional story. It has a character that identifies with the listener in a specific manner. There is a conflict, a change and a resolution, which doesn’t always take place with in the story. But the character changes, grows, and realizes something unexpected. The show wants a story with a situation in which something unpredictable will take place.
Three months later, Julie received a fax stating that the writer thought about the criteria for the program and came up with a new story. It was about Kenny and Jackie Whortan, a couple from Canalou, a small town in Missouri. They left the town, but returned when they retired. However, the down was in shambles when they returned and they tried to improve it. The more they helped the town, the more the people there disliked them. Julie really like this story, and like how it had pitch letters. But she was really satisfied because when she and Ira gave their commentary, it was understood and the writer came up with an entirely different story as a result. Simultaneously, the webmaster, Elizabeth Meister, gave story that had the same qualities as the Missouri story except in Kansas. And they couldn’t do both stories because they were so much alike.
However, the Kansas story didn’t have any conflict, or situation that revealed people’s attitudes. Then Ira explains that it is imperative for the story to have a sequence of actions. He gives this example of a story about this guy Bret who was waiting for the subway, during rush hour and noticed this well dressed man approaching everyone, saying something and then moving to the next person, closer and closer to Bret. Ira comes and explains that at this point in the story no listener would shut off the radio because they want to find out what the man is saying to everyone. Ira explains that although this is a “banal story”, there’s suspense in the sequence of events, which is what makes narratives work. The listener wants to know what is going to happen next, and banal sequence raises questions that the listener will stay tuned to hear the outcome. Bret then says that the man was telling people if they could stay or go. This made him nervous because he didn’t know what the guy was going to tell him to do. The guy told him he could stay, and Bret was “euphoric”. Ira comes in and explains that there is something in having a stranger pass judgment on you. He gives the example of when you go to the cashier to pay for CD’s and the person who rings you up gives you this weird look because of the kind of music you’re buying. (p.s. SO TRUE!)
Ira explains that radio is a didactic medium, and if you don’t explain the meaning of story, it loses it’s edge. In Bret’s story, by bringing in the idea of strangers judging you, it brought so much more to the story.
Then he explains the exact structure for every program. There’s an anecdote, someone tells a sequence of actions. Then it is reflected upon, which brings meaning to the anecdote. This pattern repeats itself again and again. Ira says it’s just like a sermon, when a priest reads out of the Bible and then explains its meaning.

I am so excited that it is so nice out today!!! She is dropping them off at the Christiana's house, their babysitter. They have known her for almost eternity...four years. But they don't cry when the mom leaves. Mom says I love you to both of them and kisses them good-bye. They love Christiana a lot more than their other babysitter Natalia. The annecdote is that Natalia isn't as calm. But when asked who its easier to get away with something they say Natalia because she doesn't know the rules of their house. Then they start saying the things they would tell her they were allowed to do: drink coke, and the boy would tell her he was allowed to go to bed in his clothes...when asked why? His annecdote is that then he doesn't have to change. His siter explains that he hates changing because he thinks it wastes too much time. Christiana is like a second mom. Christiana says that she thinks of them as her kids. They agree. She known them for so long and seen them grow up. Music comes in soft with the kids talking in the background. Then another child gets dropped off, but doesn't call Christiana Mom, but aunt.

ok I keep trying to get the episode link, but it only shows up www.thislife.org and doesn't change. The ebgining opens with a description of these two upscale camps in Michigan. One is a girls camp, the others is a boys camp, but they basically work as one. it's a typical camp with the two girls who want to go home. Then the two girls say how all they want to do is go home. The boys camp is named after Indian tribes and the girls camp is named after colleges. There are three anecdotes of kids saying how people at home don't get how great camp is and how much they love it! Then a harmanica starts playing in the background as the transition, sounds like camp music. The reflection is that there is a gap between kids that go to camp and kids that don't, and in this episode they are going to try to fill the gap. The music comes in and Note one is about Mr. Popular. The transition is a guitar playing in the background and he starts to sing..."even Hitler has a girlfirend". It's Dave who went to the camp, and is now in college and is a camp counselor. His anecdote is that camp is number one, it changes people's lives, their lives revolve around it. He is asked who would he be (if he didn't go to camp) He pauses...dramatic affect..."I don't know". he realized he loves who he is because of the way camp made him. Says camp is like college, one day of camp is like 2 weeks of real life. Then describes him as the best counselor and girls in the back state the annecdote..."we love him"...why..."because he takes us sailing". They sang a song they made for him and it ended with "D-A-V-E-Y" something he is our guy or number one. Then the loud speaker enounces lunch time...says its delicious. Ironic because camp food sucks! Dave describes the lunch tradition how they sing songs, the girls do a chant that you can't understand but he made up the chant that the boys screem back. He describes it as the "clean version". The annecdote, Dave is a force people turn to, Dave is the man...haha! Its the night of the dance and Dave is describing how some camper is going to his this girl tonight. Then he talks about the kid is really cool and he's shy but he says what he needs to say. But Dave knows the girl likes him because he talked to her about...HE WOULDN"T BE THE SAME IF HE DIDN"T GO TO CAMP!

audio post powered by audblog

I have to agree with Zepped about last nights homework assignment being bazaar. As I was searching this website, trying to figure out what the hell we are supposed to do, I noticed people walking by giving me bazaar looks and staring at the computer screen. For the sake of people not thinking I am a pathetic nympho who tries to find dates by looking at sketchy websites, I decided to wait until I was in the privacy of my dorm room to do this. I chose to analize Surfwax, despite the fact I already think he is a f*cking sketchball for posting a personal ad with hopes of finding "friendship, dating" and a "serious relationship". He will find someone equally freaky this way. But he is still "single", so maybe he should change his dating tactics. He obviously has no standards or is just looking for some ass because has "no preference" about the qualities of the person he wants to date, except that they are female. There is one thing he knows, he's heterosexual. He is open for a woman 21-25, any ethnicity (at least he's not racist), any sign, can have children (but really "no preference"), can smoke, booze, does drugs "sometimes"...as long as they're f*cked up enough to put out, I think he's down. Oh but they need to have gone to college, live 25 miles from ATX, Texas, is 4'10-5'10, and weighs 100-150lbs. With these kind of standards, I think he should stick to his hand for a good time. I don't think I can pass fair judgement on Surfwax based on the minimal information given in his ad, but personally I think he is desperate and just NEEDS TO GET LAID. I am saying this based off the fact he posted a personal ad in the first place and his lack of requirements in a woman, except for they need to be in a "25 mile" radius to ensure a wham bam thank you mam at any moment. He might be someone that just doesn't care about superficial things and he did mention that he is religiously "spiritual". This "slightly out of focus" schizophrenic needs to block all the "many beautiful people" in his head. But wait he has a sense of humor because..."ha ha don't worry" he is "only slightly crazy". Personally, I think if he really is mentally ill he will attract the kind of audience he is looking for...just as crazy. I am supposed to pay close attention to the specificity of the language, however Surfwax has "no preference" and "sometimes" as his reponse to most of the questions.
